Road Signs Quiz

Road Signs – How Well Do You Know Them?

When learning how to drive, it is really essential to understand what road signs mean. They give us important information to help navigate the roads in a safe and responsible manner.

For example, they can inform us when we need to moderate our speed or when there are curves in the road ahead.

There are 3 basic categories:

Regulatory – Simply put, these signs tell us what we can and can’t do. Regulatory signs are not optional and have to be followed. For example, coming to a complete stop at a Stop sign or driving down a one way street.

Warning – These are designed to highlight our attention to potential risks or situations moving ahead. The hazard may not seem obvious to a driver so Warning signs help us to be aware of particular conditions. For example, a warning that there is a merging lane upcoming or a pedestrian crossing ahead.

Guide/Marker – These signs provide information to help us arrive to our desired destination. For example, what direction to take or how many miles remain.

The great thing about road signs is that they are designed to be as consistent as possible. That means no matter where you are driving from or where you are going to, the signs will follow the same standards. Of course, there might be a small variation in some particular states but Federal Regulations ensure that we can understand what these signs are communicating no matter where we are.

Before you can ace your driving exam you will first have to pass the written portion. This quiz is not meant to serve as an official study guide but a refresher to help brush up your skills and understanding.
